Downey & Company (Roger N. Downey Agency, Inc.) is an independent insurance agency organized in the state of New Mexico, since 1979. Downey & Company specializes in contract bonds and insurance for the commercial construction industry in New Mexico.

Roger N. Downey, Founder

Roger began his surety career in Denver in the 1960’s with USF&G. He came to New Mexico in 1968 to open a surety branch for The Western. In the mid-1970’s he began developing a solid book of construction accounts while working with The Berger Briggs Insurance Agency. In 1979, Roger separated from Berger Briggs and the Roger N. Downey Agency, Inc. was incorporated. While Roger is not active in the day to day operations of the agency, he is still very visible in the company. His long standing relationships in the local construction community and with surety and insurance companies are a valuable asset. He is an essential advisor and mentor to our employees and clients.


Christian B. Downey, President

Chris is a licensed producer at Downey & Company specializing in contract bonds and insurance for commercial contractors. Chris started his career as a surety underwriter with Fidelity & Deposit in 1995 after graduating from Whittier College in Los Angeles, CA. He worked as a contract bond underwriter with three different surety companies before joining the agency in 2001. Because he has been cross trained in both the surety company ranks and the agency side of the business, he understands the subtlety of the “surety relationship”. Chris is active in various construction trade organizations and currently serves on the Board of Directors, and will be president in 2019 of the New Mexico branch of the Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC). He is also the Regional Director for the Rocky Mountain Region, and a 2016-17 Ex-Offico to the National Board of Directors of the National Association of Surety Bond Producers (NASBP).


Sherryl Quint, Account Manager

Sherryl has been an Account Manager and Producer at Downey and Company since 1999. Sherryl was licensed in the insurance industry and started her career in 1984 at Pargin Insurance Agency handling personal lines insurance. In 1995 she became co-owner of Pargin and ran the agency for 4 years. In 1999 she joined Downey as a commercial lines customer service rep. She completed the William J. Angel Surety School, Levels I, II, and III and provides surety service to her customers as well as handling their commercial insurance needs. Sherryl prides herself on her customer service skills and the relationships she has built with her customers. In 2019 she was awarded Customer Service Rep of the Year for New Mexico. Sherryl enjoys the outdoors and takes every opportunity to fish the beautiful lakes and rivers of New Mexico.


Maria Ankeny, Customer Service

Maria is an account manager at Downey & Company. She began her career with the agency in 2003 and obtained her New Mexico Property & Casualty license in 2005. She has successfully completed Level I and Level II of the NASBP William J. Angell Surety School. Maria is committed to helping her clients obtain the proper coverage for their businesses and excels in her customer service skills. Maria pursues a variety of continuing education classes each year to maintain her Property & Casualty license in New Mexico.


Susan J. Vance, MBA, CIC, Account Manager

Sue is a producer at Downey & Company. She has been a licensed Property & Casualty agent in New Mexico since 1998. She received her bachelor’s degree from Bowling Green State University in Spanish in 1994 and her MBA degree from The Anderson School of Management at the University of New Mexico in 2004. She has completed the National Association of Surety Bond Producers (NASBP) William J. Angell Surety School Levels I and II and most recently completed her CIC (Certified Insurance Counselor) designation through the National Alliance for Insurance Education & Research. She is currently pursuing her Certified Risk Manager (CRM) designation.


Mary Jo Nettles, Accountant

Mary Jo Nettles has twenty years of experience in insurance accounting and owns her own accounting business in Albuquerque, NM.  She has been contracted by Downey and Company to provide her accounting services for the past two years.  In her free time Mary Jo is an avid golfer and loves to travel with her husband Ross.


Carolyn Nasi, Account Manager

Carolyn joined Downey & Company in January 2021 as an Account Manager. She has been a licensed Property & Casualty Agent in New Mexico since 1989 and earned her Certified Insurance Counselor (CIC) designation in 2007. Carolyn started her insurance career in Albuquerque, moved to Farmington for ten years before moving back to Albuquerque in 2000.


Joseph A. Menicucci,
Insurance and Surety Agent

Joseph A. Menicucci has joined Downey & Company as a Contract Bond and Insurance producer.  A native New Mexican, Joe joined the Downey Team in May of 2017 to assist companies in New Mexico with finding contract bond and insurance solutions to suit their specific needs.  Prior to his role at Downey & Company, he spent over 9 years as one of the top producers at another agency. Joe is a graduate of St. Pius X High School and received his Bachelor Degree in Business Administration from New Mexico State University with concentration in Finance and Business Computer Systems. He currently serves on the board for the New Mexico Roofing Contractors Association.


Joseph Cito,
Insurance and Surety Agent

Joseph Cito is a native New Mexican who graduated from Saint Pius High School and obtained his bachelor’s degree in history from the University of New Mexico.  Joseph joined the Downey team in February of 2020.   Prior to joining the Downey and Company team, Joseph was a top commercial sales representative for a Fortune 500 company, where he developed technological business solutions for large commercial customers in New Mexico, Texas, and Colorado.  He also has prior experience working at another insurance agency in New Mexico where he was licensed in property casualty as well as health and life insurance.  He is currently working on expanding his surety bonding knowledge, while he works on his continuing education for his insurance licenses.


Kathy F. Hennessy,
Governmental Risk Director

Kathy Hennessy serves as the Governmental Risk Director of Downey & Company’s governmental division. Shortly after earning her BBA in Accounting from Texas Tech University, Kathy found her niche in serving the insurance and loss prevention needs of New Mexico governmental entities. Upon joining Downey and Company in May 2021, Kathy brought 29 years of experience in underwriting NM municipalities as well as a passion for safety and loss prevention.


Shiloh Bohman, Customer Service

Shiloh started her career in insurance at Builders Trust of New Mexico, where she worked in policy administration and new business underwriting.  She brings a tremendous amount of knowledge regarding the construction industry and how it intersects with worker’s compensation insurance.  Shiloh is delighted for the opportunity to further her career while she enhances her insurance knowledge  working with the Downey team.  In her free time, Shiloh enjoys hiking, camping and recently discovered a love for fishing.
